Fort Wayne man arrested after stealing weapons out of 9 squad cars

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A Fort Wayne man is facing charges after allegedly stealing items, including weapons from nine Fort Wayne Police Department squad cars.

Brandon Bowman, 21, was charged Tuesday with theft of police firearms, a level 6 felony. On Monday, July 13, Fort Wayne Police Department detectives found the stolen weapons during a search at Bowman’s Sinclair Street home.

The stolen weapons, including a DPMS AR-style .223 caliber rifle and a Remington model 870 12-gauge, were taken from squad cars between May 31 and June 7.

During of a search of Bowman’s home, detectives found both guns in the bedroom closet. The Remington shotgun was found in plain view on a shelf. The AR-style rifle was hidden with an Ohio State sweatshirt zippered over the barrel in Bowman’s bedroom closet.

No court date has been set.
