Honda to add 100 jobs, invest $52M in Greensburg plant

GREENSBURG, Ind. (WISH) — Honda announced plans Tuesday to invest $52 million into its Decatur County manufacturing facility.

The money will help fund up to 100 new jobs to produce the Honda CR-V in Greensburg, a media release from the state of Indiana said.

Honda Manufacturing of Indiana will invest around $40 million to enhance production capabilities of its 1.3 million-square-foot plant in order to manufacture the CR-V. The facility will begin producing the vehicle in early 2017. Production of the Honda Civic will continue at the plant.

“Honda has been a great partner to the state of Indiana from the moment the company announced plans to establish a facility in Greensburg in 2006,” Gov. Mike Pence said in the release. “I have had the pleasure of meeting with the company’s leadership here in the United States and in Japan, and I am proud that they have once again chosen Indiana for growth. The automotive industry in Indiana supports more than 100,000 Hoosier jobs, and that number will continue to grow thanks to the commitment of companies like Honda.”

The additional $12.37 million will go toward building a new 20,000-square-foot training facility, according to the release.

Production of the Civic in Indiana began in 2008. The Greensburg facility is Honda’s fourth auto plan in the United States. The Indiana plant employs more than 2,300 people.
