Illinois baseball player’s home run shatters his own windshield

SAUGET, IL (WISH) – The odds were not in an Illinois baseball player’s favor when he hit a grand slam that shattered his own car windshield.

On Sunday at a ballpark in Sauget, Illinois, Brandon Thomas hit a home run he will never forget.

“When I hit it, I knew I got it. I just wasn’t sure it was going to be fair or foul. But it stay fair long enough,” Thomas, Centerfielder for the Gateway Grizzlies said.

The ball hit shattered the window of his 2008 Toyota Tundra that was parked in the parking lot.

“I mean, the things that have to line up for that to happen. He has to park his car in that spot. He has to hit the ball to that spot. It has to be turned around the right way,” Sam Levitt, the play-by-play broadcaster for the Gateway Grizzlies said.

Thomas said it wasn’t a little crack, it left pretty good damage. Not only will Thomas never forget the homerun, but he will always have the windshield repair bill to remind him.CNN contributed to this report.
