COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – An initial hearing is scheduled for a man charged with raping a 17-year-old girl while an 18-year-old woman allegedly livestreamed the assault with a social media app.

Raymond Gates of Columbus is charged with rape, kidnapping, sexual battery and pandering sexual matter involving a minor. A Friday afternoon hearing was set for the 29-year-old Gates in Franklin County court.

A hearing is scheduled Monday for his co-defendant, 18-year-old Marina Lonina.

An indictment alleges Lonina used the Periscope app to livestream the February assault.

Attorneys for Lonina deny the charges. Court records don’t list an attorney for Gates to respond to the charges.

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien says authorities learned of the assault when an out-of-state friend of the accused woman saw the images.
