Teen sentenced to 6 years for Clinton County crash that killed 2 sisters
FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) — A Clinton County judge has sentenced 18-year-old Alia Sierra to 6 years total after she drove a car into a home and killed two sisters. Two years will be in the department of corrections, two in community corrections and two on probation.
About a dozen family and friends were in the courtroom Thursday. Family members testified and said their family will never hear. They said the girls were intelligent, kind and had bright futures ahead of them.
Sierra pleaded guilty to two counts of reckless homicide in September. Even though she was 17 at the time of the incident in July of 2017, she was tried as an adult.
17-year-old Haleigh Fullerton and 8-year-old Callie Fullerton were killed when Sierra’s car crashed into the living room where the sisters were watching TV. They were pinned underneath the car and died from their injuries. Their mother was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators said Sierra was going more than 100 miles an hour when she lost control of the car. Other teens in the vehicle told police they repeatedly asked her to slow down.
Prosecutor Tony Sommer told News 18 the question of the presence of opioids in Sierra’s blood could not be confirmed due to lack of evidence.
