ELKHART, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – An entrepreneurship and education program in northern Indiana has announced the winners of its inaugural pitch event. Startup Moxie Elkhart County says three area high school students will present their winning ideas to the public during a live virtual event next week.

The virtual event included 16 competing students as well as mentors, school faculty, event judges and Startup Moxie board members. The winners include:

• First place: Caden Waugh, founder of Safeway Home Solutions which provides safe storage and technology innovation.
• Second place: Travis Taber, founder of Home Rebuilds that remodels and rebuilds homes and properties.
• Third place: Sean Khompengcheng, founder of Khompetech. His business idea provides precision robotic hands for manufacturing.

“My startup Safeway Home Solutions was created after conducting numerous empathy interviews and examining those interviews through market research to identify some problems with current security products,” said Waugh
The event’s judges included Amish Shah, chief executive officer of Kem Krest, Bethany Hartley, director of diversity and inclusion at the South Bend-Elkhart Regional Partnership and Will Weed, chief executive officer of Robert Weed Corp.

“Each student presented a unique solution and expressed curiosity around problems often overlooked. I’m eager to see how they shape the vision of our region in years to come,” said Hartley.

The program is inviting community members to watch the students at their Experience RISE Virtual Expo & Showcase on May 14 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
