INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — City leaders on Thursday will announce the launch of a new testing initiative aimed at reaching communities disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 virus.

The announcement via a video news conference will occur at 10 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release from the office of Mayor Joe Hogsett. The release provided no additional details about the initiative or who will be tested.

Free testing for essential workers has been ongoing in Indianapolis.

The news conference will include the mayor — plus Dr. Virginia Caine of the Marion County Public Health Department; Jeffrey Johnson Sr., pastor at Eastern Star Church; Vop Osili, president of the City-County Council; and Paul Babcock of the Office of Public Health and Safety — according to the release.

The news conference will be live on WISH-TV, the WISH-TV app and the WISH-TV Facebook page.
