Mother’s advice kicked off Indy 500 milk tradition
SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) — The tradition of drinking milk after the Indy 500 began in 1936 with winner Louie Meyer.
He drank buttermilk because his mother advised it would be a good drink for a hot day.
But in 1993, Emerson Fittipaldi drank orange juice to promote citrus grove owned by his family.
