Improving Hispanic/Latino heart health
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — February is National Heart Health Month and WISH-TV Contributor Gloria Jimenez joins to explore heart health issues within the Hispanic/Latino community.
“Cardiovascular disease can affect people of all ethnicities,” Jimenez said, “but most common for Latinos is hypertension, coronary artery disease, obesity and metabolic syndrome and Type 2 Diabetes.”
Prevention to these diseases requires a multi-faceted approach.
“Number one would be access to healthcare,” Jimenez said, “affordable health care and having (care providers) who speak Spanish as well. Understanding the health care system is important too.”
More information on improving Hispanic/Latino Heart Health can be found at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute website.
