‘Let’s Taco-Bout the Census’ event aims to get more people counted

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Community groups came together Friday for a unique way to get people to fill our their census forms. La Plaza worked with Count Me Indy for the “Let’s Taco-Bout the Census” event.

People were invited to bring their census forms, complete them and enjoy free tacos. Organizers said they got a chance to tell people why the census is important.

“It’s just so important that people come out and complete their census forms so that we get the necessary funding for the next 10 years, political power so that our schools are funded and that we receive the appropriate funding from the federal government,” said Mariana Lopez-Owens with La Plaza.

La Plaza is a Latino organization that hopes to strengthen youth, families and the community through linguistically and culturally appropriate services and community events.
