Pandemic spurs ’employee burnout’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Feeling tired at your job these days? Well, you’re not alone. Workers across the U.S. are experiencing higher rates of what’s known as “employee burnout.” 

A national survey conducted by global market research firm, Ipsos, found 58% of Americans are worn down and attribute it directly to their job. 

There are a number of reasons: 47% say it’s the workload. 39% say it’s balancing work and personal life during the COVID-19 pandemic. 37% of respondents report lack of communication, feedback and support from management. One third say burnout is due to time-pressure and lack of clarity about what their job responsibilities actually are. And more than a quarter indicate performance expectations are just too high. 

“This level of burnout is problematic and could increase as millions of employees continue to work from home and school remain closed.” said Melissa Jezior, president of Eagle Hill Consulting, who also contributed to the research. Employers have to find a way to make workloads sustainable for employees and better equip managers to lead.”
