Police: Man in ‘lucky condition’ after train crash
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A driver is in the hospital after he tried to get across railroad tracks while signals were flashing and his car was struck by a train.
Police said the man was driving eastbound on Troy Avenue between Madison Avenue and Shelby Street around 7:55 p.m. Thursday when two cars stopped in front of him at a railroad crossing with flashing signals.
The driver passed the stopped cars and drove into the railroad crossing, where a CSX train traveling about 20 mph hit the passenger side of the vehicle, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
The driver was taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in good condition. Police at the scene said the man was also in “lucky condition.”
