Proposal could change the way Indy views gun violence

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Proposal 275 would make it clear that gun violence in Indianapolis is a public health crisis.

According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, in 217 days there have been 86 homicides in the city.

“Locking all these kids up forever is not a cure we all need to do something,” said Charles Staples, an Indianapolis resident.

A public health crisis is defined as a difficult situation or complex health system that affects humans in one or more geographic areas, from a particular locality to encompass the entire planet.

The City-County Council will discuss the proposal at 7 p.m. Monday during a public meeting in the City-County Building.
