Robbery suspect shot in confrontation with police on city’s west side
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Two men robbed a Thorton’s gas station on the city’s west side.
After they robbed the gas station on the 6000 block of West Washington Street around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, they walked to a nearby apartment complex, police say.
Police were already in the complex when the robbery took place.
They say that they recognized one of the suspects walking through the complex and tried to detain them.
One of the suspects pulled a gun from his waistband when police tried to detain them. An officer open fired at the suspect, striking him.
Police said the suspect has been identified as a 17-year-old boy. They said they found a gun next to him.
He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.
Police said the other suspect, 18-year-old Miguel Duran-Vasquez, ran off but was later caught.
The suspects’ preliminary charges include robbery and resisting law enforcement.
No police officers were injured in the incident.
