Sheriff’s deputy returned fire during IHOP robbery, timeline shows

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH/AP) – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on Saturday released a timeline of events during Saturday morning’s officer-involved shooting.

An off-duty Marion County sheriff’s deputy, Sgt. David Clemons, was shot during an attempted robbery at an Indianapolis International House of Pancakes (IHOP) at 6901 W. 38th St., near the intersection with Interstate 465.

Clemons was working as a security guard, according to the Associated Press.

Clemons was treated at a hospital and released after suffering a gunshot wound to his leg about 1 a.m. Saturday.

Indianapolis police say Clemons exchanged gunfire with two men trying to rob the restaurant. About 10 customers were in the restaurant at the time of the attempted holdup. It was not immediately clear if the suspects were arrested.

Anyone who has information about this incident is urged to call the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475.
