South Split ramp back open after weeks-long closure
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A major interstate ramp in downtown Indianapolis is back open.
The ramp from Interstate 65 north to Interstate 70 west in the South Split reopened early Wednesday morning.
It took construction crews eight weeks to finish the bridge project. INDOT says the bridge is rebuilt and say it was decades old and in need of major repair.
INDOT also says the $3.4 million project was on budget and ahead of schedule It’s part of a $50 million plan to rebuild about 80 interstate bridges this year across the state.
INDOT says when you drive on this new ramp, it will be smoother and should be able to better withstand the weather.
There were two parts to the South Split bridge project – the second that takes Morris and Prospect streets under I-65 should be open in less than a week.
