Speculation continues that Gov. Pence could be Donald Trump’s VP pick
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Speculation is growing that Governor Mike Pence could be Donald Trump’s pick for a running mate. Two of the other rumored possibilities have recently dropped out, narrowing the field.
Senator Bob Corker is the latest to take his name out of the running. Corker told the Washington Post he believes Trump will likely make his final decision by July 15. That date is just three days before the opening of the GOP convention in Cleveland.
July 15 is also the date that Governor Pence must drop out of the race for governor, if he’s going to accept the position.
Trump has said his list remains at about 10 people. Some of the speculated front runners are Governor Pence, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Newt Gingrich.
Senator Joni Ernst has pulled out of the running to be Trump’s running mate, saying she supports Pence for the job.
Governor Pence is still running for reelection against Democratic candidate John Gregg. The latest fundraising numbers show Pence has raised more than $4 million in the last three months. Gregg has raised about $3 million during that same time period.
