State police: Elderly woman dies after crash with LaGrange County deputy

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) — An 87-year-old woman died Sunday, four days after she was involved in a crash with a LaGrange County sheriff’s deputy in the town of LaGrange, state police said.

Police identified the woman as Barabra Ebert, of LaGrange, Indiana.

State police say that 80-year-old Lilian Jagoda and her passenger Ebert were turning out of a store parking lot in the 800 block of South Detroit Street at around 3:45 p.m. Thursday and into the path of a patrol car driven by Deputy Brian Emelander.

Emelander’s squad car struck struck the Buick on the driver’s side, then ran off the side of the road before striking a tree.

Jagoda, Ebert, and Emelander was transported to Parkview Hospital. Emelander’s K-9 partner was taken to a local vet.

Conditions of Jagoda and Emelander are unknown at this time.
