Swiss rolls, bread recalled due to potential salmonella contamination

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WSPA)  – Flowers Foods is recalling Swiss Rolls and bread that could be contaminated with salmonella.

The “Swiss Rolls” are sold nationwide under the following brand names:

  • “Mrs. Freshley’s”
  • “Food Lion”
  • “H-E-B”
  • “Baker’s Treat”
  • “Market Square”
  • “Great Value”

Flowers is also recalling “Captain Derst’s Old Fashioned Bread” distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Flowers says the recall is due to the potential presence of Salmonella in they whey powder used in the products.

The ingredient recall was initiated by a third-party manufacturer and supplier.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections. It can also cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
