Pacers acquire Thad Young from Nets

Thaddeus Young is on his way to Indiana, bringing his versatile game to a Pacers team looking to get faster.

The Pacers acquired Young from the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday for the 20th overall pick, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.

The two teams agreed to the trade just a few hours before the start of the NBA draft. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been announced.

It’s the second big move this week by Pacers President Larry Bird as he looks to retool the team and make it a faster, sleeker group for new coach Nate McMillan. The Pacers landed point guard Jeff Teague in a three-team trade with Atlanta and Utah that sent George Hill to the Jazz on Wednesday.

Young is a versatile steals artist who averaged 15.1 points with the Nets last season.

Yahoo! Sports first reported the trade.

The Pacers went 45-37 before losing to Toronto in seven games in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Bird made the surprise decision to not bring Vogel back for next season, turning the team over to McMillan in a look to freshen up things in Indiana.

With Teague, Young, Paul George and Myles Turner, McMillan will have the ingredients to play a more up-tempo game and guard multiple positions.

Young has been a man on the move over the last few years, playing for Philadelphia, Minnesota and Brooklyn, all franchises who were losing a lot of games.

Coming to Indiana may give Young a chance to play for a winner for the first time in quite a while.

The Nets are in rebuild mode under new GM Sean Marks, and picking up another first-round draft pick gives them another asset to either use for their roster or peddle in trade offers going forward.
