Heavy rain threat could cause flooding this week

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — It certainly has that spring feel across central Indiana.

Another dose of mild (for early February) temperatures are heading our way for Wednesday and Thursday. Along with the warmup, we expect a few rounds of rain that could dump a few inches or more precipitation across a very saturated central Indiana.

A stalled boundary will drape itself across the Midwest. Gulf moisture gets pumped in thanks to Atlantic High pressure, and a couple of upper level waves riding along the stationary boundary will wring out moderate to heavy rainfall in this heavily saturated airmass.

While the “bullseye” of heavy rainfall may be south of the Ohio River, central and southern portions of Indiana could still manage to see as high as 2 inches to 3 inches, with isolated higher amounts possible. When you combine that with an already saturated soil, it’s a recipe for some flooding issues, especially in urban area, and poor drainage and low lying areas.

Flood Watch will be in effect Wednesday evening through Thursday evening for much of central Indiana for the flooding threat.
