Man sentenced to 25 years for attempted murder in 2017

An Indianapolis man was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison for the attempted murder of a man in March 2017, Marion County prosecutors said.

Herbert Quinn was found guilty March 20 after a two-day jury trial in Marion Superior Court, Criminal Division 2. He also was found guilty of carrying a handgun without a license, a news release from prosecutors said. After his prison time, he will have five years in Marion County Community Corrections.

Quinn was involved in a shooting in the 4000 block of Eastern Avenue on the city’s east side, the release said.

“Prior to the shooting, Quinn was seen on home surveillance video approaching the door of the home while brandishing a handgun,” the release said. “Once the victim answered the door, Quinn fired multiple gunshots, striking the victim one time in the chest before fleeing the scene.

“According to witnesses, prior to the shooting Quinn stated he was going to confront the victim about a social media post referring to a previous conflict between the victim and Quinn.”
