Vigil honors woman whose body was found by church group

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Family members of 32-year-old Jaime Beasley held a vigil Tuesday night in her memory.

Beasley vanished Dec. 15. Beasley’s body was found by a church group over the weekend. Her family said she was found Saturday 700 feet away from where she was last seen, her boyfriend’s house.

Nearly 80 people turned out to the vigil for Beasley held near East 20th Street and North Riley Avenue on Indianapolis’ east side.

Candles, flowers and heart felt notes lay against a utility pole, mementos left by family and friends in Beasley’s honor.

It’s a heartbreaking loss Beasley’s mother, Sherrie Price, has gone through not once, but twice now after losing her other daughter in September.

“This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with in my entire life,” Price said. “This is the most pain I have ever felt in my entire life and not to have to do it once, but to have to do it twice, this is too much.”

While the family is in a state of shock, a sense of skepticism filled the air at Tuesday’s vigil when it comes to what exactly happened to Beasley.

“Too many women out here are dying,” family friend Lakia Rutland said. “The police in Indianapolis aren’t doing anything. This baby has been missing for so long and they’re just now finding her? That’s not possible.”

“Being this close, they walked up and down here a few times,” family relative Bill Corbally said. “Then there she was. It’s like, how can you miss her after all that time?”

Four months later, her family is still left to wonder, but also left to hope that eventually there will be justice for Jaime.

“We still believe it should be a homicide investigation,” Price said. “Because there’s no way she got here by herself. This is not how it’s supposed to be. I was not supposed to outlive my girls.”

Family members tell WISH-TV that Tuesday night’s vigil also marked the birthday of Jaime’s 10-year-old daughter.

At this point in time, investigators have not identified a suspect nor made any arrests in the case.

Police are not considering it a homicide at this time, only a death investigation.

Family members have set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs.
