Milky glow photographed in baby’s eye proves to be cancer

PHOENIX (AP) – An Arizona baby is getting treatment in New York after photos captured a milky glow in his eye that was later diagnosed as cancer.

The Arizona Republic reports Scottsdale mom Andrea Temarantz suspected a camera malfunction was behind the glow, but became worried after getting a new Nikon. She took her son Ryder for a four-month checkup and he was subsequently diagnosed with retinoblastoma.

Doctors at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center are treating Ryder, who also has Down syndrome.

Ophthalmic Oncology Service chief Dr. David H. Abramson says during Ryder’s treatment, three different doses of chemotherapy will be delivered directly to the eye via a catheter longer than 6 feet and thinner than angel hair pasta.

Temarantz says her son has beaten all the odds so far.
