Vocalist AshLee Baskin: Using art as a weapon to fight social justice

AshLee “PsyWrn Simone” Baskin is a vocalist, songwriter, lyricist, poet/spoken-word artist, actress, and teaching artist who is guided by Nina Simone’s words, “An artists’ duty…is to reflect the times.”

She has performed regionally and internationally at festivals, and with other bands, collectives, and musicians. Her multi-sensory performances mingle the audience with her message, giving fans a performance they won’t forget.

Baskin, a 2021 Art & Soul Featured Artist, performs with her mom, Kathy Baskin (spoken word); Tenéh Karimu (piano and vocal); Joshua Thompson (piano); CJ Warfield (keyboard); Will Robinson (bass); Matthew Dupress (drums and vocals); Jarrett Weathers (dance); and Josiah McCruiston (vocals).
