Cold and dry start to the week

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A fresh snow pack will make for a couple of cold mornings.  Dry weather hangs around through the mid week.

Today:

Dry air settles into the Midwest today.  Clouds have been breaking to the south during the overnight – which should lead to some sunshine across the area today.  Temperatures will struggle thanks to 6″+ of snow on the ground – likely only making it to the middle to upper 20s in many locations.

Tonight:

Quiet weather continues tonight under a partly cloudy sky.  Lows fall back into the middle to upper teens.

Tuesday:

We’ll likely see another day of sun, with more clouds mixing in through the day.  We should warm up a bit, reaching the middle 50s by the afternoon.

8 day forecast:

A weak cold front moves into the area Wednesday – but shouldn’t amount to much in the way of precipitation.  A sprinkle or flurry can’t be ruled out, however.  We’ve got two systems that we’re keeping an eye on for the end of the week.  The first system moves in  Thursday – looks like a mostly rain event, with some snow showers mixing in for our northern counties.  The second system – potential more potent and colder, could bring another round of snow accumulation to the area for the start of the weekend.  Way too early for specifics, including any accumulation amount, but something worth watching as we go through the week.

We’ll likely see our first big blast of real arctic air moving in the weekend, with highs struggling to get out of the teens both Saturday and Sunday.
