Columbus man arrested after stealing $2,100 worth of merchandise

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – A Columbus man is in custody after shoplifting from Walmart Tuesday morning.

According to the Columbus Police Department, officers were called to the Walmart located in the 700 block of Whitfield Driver at approximately 1:45 a.m. for a man acting suspicious.

Employees told police the suspect ran when they confronted him. 

Police say that after arriving on scene,  the man, identified as 29-year-old Dustin Jessie, exited the store with a cart full of items – totaling $2,100 – without paying for them.

After Jessie exited the store with the stolen merchandise, he was apprehended and taken into custody by the responding officers.

Jessie has been transported to the Bartholomew County Jail, where he faces a preliminary theft charge.
