Police: Man robbed at gunpoint, tied up and locked in bathroom

Crime Watch 8

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police are looking for two men accused of a robbing a man at gunpoint and then tying him up and locking him in a bathroom.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday inside of a building on East 10th Street across from the Woodruff Place neighborhood.

Crews have been working on that building as it will soon become home to the new Beholder restaurant.

On Tuesday morning, one of those workers told police the front door was propped open and two men came inside. One pointed a gun a him and said, “Give me all you got.”

The man handed over his wallet, keys and a pocketknife.

He said the men then used rope and painter’s tape from inside the building to tie him up and tape his mouth shut and then locked him in the bathroom.

The worker was found a short time later when someone else arrived to start working on the restaurant.

Some people who live in the neighborhood said they’ve heard of petty crime happening in the area but nothing like this.

“I was real surprised. Nothing like that ever happens around here,” said Joe Deal, a Woodruff Place resident.

Others said they are not that surprised.

“There is occasionally a little bit of crime on the east side of the neighborhood. We are close to downtown Indianapolis, so I think you can expect a little bit of crime here and there,” said resident Josh Mugele.

Both men said they hope police find those responsible, but they don’t think this crime will impact the success of the highly anticipated restaurant or how safe they feel in their homes.

“Our neighborhood is safe. We have great neighbors, great people around here. I am not at all worried,” Mugele said.

“It is a great neighborhood. Everybody looks out for each other,” Deal said. “I definitely think it is isolated, yeah, because we don’t have problems like that.”

If you have any information that could help Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department investigators with this case, call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
