Hoosier Survey: Ritz leads superintendent race; Hill on top for attorney general
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Glenda Ritz has spent four years battling the governor and Republicans in the General Assembly. Yet the Democratic state school Superintendent is leading in her bid for re-election.
“This is a referendum on Ritz,” said Ray Scheele, Director Emeritus of the Bowen Center on Public Affairs at Ball State University.
She holds a seven point lead over Republican Jennifer McCormick in the WISH-TV/Ball State Hoosier Survey. It’s Ritz 45 percent to 38 percent for McCormick.
“She’s weathered the storm,” said Scheele of Ritz, “and right now she’s doing very well.”
In another statewide contest, Republican Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill won endorsements from the FOP and the State Police Alliance in the race for attorney general.
The Democratic candidate is retired Lake County Judge Lorenzo Arredondo and neither candidate is well known.
“A lot of people really are picking party in this case over individual candidates,” said Joe Losco of the Bowen Center.
And in this case, because it’s Indiana, it’s good to be a Republican. Hill leads in the Hoosier Survey with a big margin, 44 percent to 32 percent.
