Ice cream cups recalled over contamination concerns

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Blue Bell Ice Cream is recalling some of their products because they could be contaminated.

The company announced this week they were recalling three kinds of 3 oz. institutional/food service ice cream cups in chocolate, strawberry and vanilla flavors. The cups could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.

Health officials in Kansas found one positive test for Listeria monocytogenes on a chocolate ice cream cup from a hospital in Wichita this week. This cup was produced in an Oklahoma plant on April 15, 2014.

The recalled items were distributed in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wyoming via food service accounts.
