United Way of Wabash Valley receives $1M grant

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – The United Way of the Wabash Valley will receive $1.1 million in grant money from the COVID-19 Economic Relief Initiative Grant. Our partners at WTHI-TV report that the money will be designated for the Wabash Valley COVID-19 Relief Fund, designated to local organizations that service the Wabash Valley community.

As previously reported, the grant funds are supported by Lilly Endowment Inc. and Indiana United Ways. The effort includes $30 million to Indiana United Ways and $3.5 million to United Way of Central Indiana to support the five counties it serves outside of Marion County.

Danielle Isbell, resource development director for United Way of the Wabash Valley says the nonprofit will focus on helping out-of-work individuals and families with the grant money.

“We know we have the stimulus coming in and helping them, but they’re going to be out of work for a long time and that money isn’t going to go very far,” said Isbell.

The nonprofit says the grant money will help further extend financial relief to struggling people and businesses, and nonprofit officials say they’re planning to make announcements about mid- and long-term grants in the coming weeks.
