Porter County health officials say patient tested negative for coronavirus
PORTER COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A patient in Porter County has tested negative for the presence of the novel coronavirus after health officials were concerned the patient may have contracted it earlier this week.
According to Porter County health officials, an initial screening of the individual on Monday revealed symptoms and a travel history met the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention criteria for an investigation.
The patient was hospitalized and lab tests were performed before the person’s condition improved and results were found negative.
“The successful handling of this situation is attributable to the collaboration with local, state and federal agencies charged with preserving and protecting public health and safety,” said Dr. Maria Stamp, Porter County Health Officer. “If and when a similar event develops, the same collaboration will be employed.”
Friday, both Delta and American Airlines suspended flights between the U.S. and China as the coronavirus outbreak spreads.
State health officials have said, besides the Porter County case there are no possible coronavirus cases being investigated in Indiana.
