Sheriff: Man fleeing crash fired shots at deputies
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man is in the Marion County Jail after allegedly firing a gun during a chase with Marion County deputies.
The sheriff’s office says around 3:15 p.m. Sunday, a deputy witnessed an accident at East 16th Street and Emerson Avenue.
Brian Wampner, 33, was one of the drivers, and ran from the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputy went after Wampner; then someone nearby saw Wampner running and tackled him. That’s when Wampner fired two shots, the sheriff’s office said.
No one was hurt.
Investigators found drugs at the scene, and the car Wampner was driving was stolen, the sheriff’s office said.
Wampner faces preliminary charges of criminal recklessness, attempted aggravated assault and drug dealing.
The other driver in the accident was taken to the hospital but is going to be fine.
