May starts off with below-normal rainfall in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — We’re in store for several rain chances not only for Thursday but throughout the weekend.

Let’s take a look at the rainfall so far throughout the month of May. We’ve seen about five days in Indianapolis where we’ve picked up measurable rainfall. Two days with a trace of rain.

Our total for the month is 0.87 inches, which is below normal. Our normal is 2.11 inches, so we’re about 1.24 inches below normal.

Here’s a look at one of our computer models throughout the weekend showing rainfall amounts. It’s important to keep in mind with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the forecast some areas will see a little more rain while others will pick up less. It all depends on where these showers and storms set up.

It doesn’t look like we’ll be breaking any daily rainfall records. Most of the records for the next few days are between 1-1/2 and and 2 inches.

Despite the rain chances the next few days central Indiana is finally going to see temperatures at or above normal this time of year.
