2 more scooter companies could operate in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Two more scooter companies could be allowed to operate in Indianapolis under new proposed regulations.

City-county councillors will introduce those new regulations at a meeting tomorrow.

Bird and Lime scooters already operate in Indy. Spin Scooters will launch this month; and Lyft recently announced it will bring its scooters to the city.

Councillors want to permit no more than six total companies. Councillors also hope to limit the companies to 1,000 scooters each.

But they could add up to 250 scooters per month depending on ridership.

The current $15,000 up-front permit fee is also included in the new regulations.
