Anthem sees jump in quarterly, annual profit

INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — Indianapolis-based Anthem Inc. (NYSE: ANTM) is reporting full-year net income of $4.8 billion, up from $3.8 billion the previous year. The company also more than doubled its earnings for the fourth quarter of 2019.

Anthem is reporting fourth quarter net income of $934 million, compared to $424 million during the same period in 2018. In its quarterly earnings report, the company said it saw growth in its Local Group, National, and Medicare businesses. 

Anthem says it added 1.1 million members to its medical enrollment last year, bringing the total number number of members to 41 million.

“Anthem delivered strong results to close out 2019 featuring the successful launch of IngenioRx, as well as our largest organic risk-based growth in more than a decade,” Gail Boudreaux, chief executive officer of Anthem, said in a news release. “We have strong momentum moving into 2020 and we will continue to deliver on our commitments to all those we serve.”
