Man dies after shooting at church on northwest side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man is dead after a shooting at a church Monday afternoon on the city’s northwest side.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to a building in the 6400 block of Westhaven Drive, which corresponds to Miracle Temple Church of Faith, around 1:30 p.m. after a 911 caller said someone had been shot there.

They arrived to find a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel took him to an area hospital, where he later died.

The man killed has been identified by the Marion County Coroner’s Office as 59-year-old Damon Frederick.

Police on Monday night did not confirm whether the shooting happened inside or outside the building.
