Driver who rear-ended semi on I-65 receives citation

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – The driver who rear-ended a semitrailer Monday night on Interstate 65 was cited for failing to reduce speed.

According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station, WLFI, the crash occurred around 9 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65, just before Exit 178 or State Road 43. Indiana State Police Trooper Kent Wainscott said a semitrailer, driven by 28-year-old Alexandru Becciv of Aurora, Illinois, was slowing down for stopped traffic due to construction when it was rear-ended by car driven by 47-year-old Scott Orr of Kankakee, Illinois.

Becciv told ISP he saw the car coming up from behind him and it did not appear to be slowing. Both vehicles ended up in right lane.

Orr had to be extricated from his vehicle and was taken to Franciscan St. Elizabeth East in Lafayette with serious injuries. Becciv was not injured.

Orr was cited for speeds too fast to avoid a collision.

Trooper Wainscott said both drivers were wearing seat belts.

It took crews more than one hour to reopen one lane of I-65. The interstate completely reopened around 11:15 p.m.
