Facade collapses on building housing Dollar General, insurance firm

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) – The facade of a Lawrence building holding three businesses collapsed Tuesday afternoon, the city’s fire chief said.

Fire Chief Dino Batalis said people were in the building when the front of it collapsed, but no one was hurt. Three cars were damaged.

The collapse was reported about 4 pm. at 8050 Pendleton Pike, just northeast of the North Franklin Road intersection.

Batalis said the building has a Dollar General store, a Young America Insurance firm and a refinishing business.

The fire chief said nothing obvious happened to cause the collapse. A city Building Services crew was on its way to the scene around 5 p.m. to access the damage, Batalis said.
