Historic Indiana covered bridge to be repaired

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO) – The iconic covered bridge in Fowler Park is getting some help.

The Vigo County Park Department hopes to begin repairs in August.

The Irishman’s Bridge was built in 1845.

It was moved to the southern Vigo County park in the early 1970’s. It’s now closed because it’s unsafe.

The Park Department is looking for someone who can fix the bridge while maintaining its historic accuracy.

The hope is that the bridge will be repaired by the end of September and ready to go for Fowler Park’s Pioneer Days.

The bridge is on the National Register of Historic Places.
