IMPD: Man arrested for murder of 17-month-old baby

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police have arrested a man for the murder of a 17-month-old baby.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has arrested 24-year-old Terrance Porter in the case.

On March 8, police and other first responders were dispatched to the 7400 block of Rockleigh Avenue on the city’s west side. Investigators were sent to check out a man with chest pains. When leaving, the man ran back out saying his baby wasn’t breathing.

The unresponsive child was sent to a hospital in Avon before being sent to Riley Children’s Hospital on a medical helicopter.

The child died the next day.

IMPD says Porter is responsible for the child’s death.

Porter is not the father of the child.

Porter has been arrested and faces preliminary charges of murder, neglect of a dependent causing death and battery.

No other information has been released by investigators. News 8 has reached out to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for a probable cause affidavit.
