Motorcyclist killed in Fort Wayne after colliding with pickup

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A motorcyclist was killed Monday after slamming into the back of a pickup truck on the city’s south side.

According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station, WANE, police and medics were called around 2:50 p.m. Monday to the intersection of McKinnie Avenue and McMillen Park Drive in Fort Wayne on a report of a motorcycle and pickup crash.

Police told Newschannel 15 that the motorcycle and the pickup were both eastbound on McKinnie. Witnesses told police that the motorcyclist had been speeding and weaving around traffic when it came up on the pickup as it slowed to turn onto McMillen Park Drive.

The motorcycle crashed into the back of the pickup as it turned, the impact killing the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, police said.

The driver of the pickup was not injured, police said.

The accident forced the closure of McKinnie between South Anthony Boulevard and Hessen Cassel Road.
