BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — Bloomington-based Cardinal Spirits has opened a new bottling facility in the Monroe County city. Details of the financial investment in the project were not disclosed, the distillery says the facility will double its bottling capacity to more than 1 million annually.

The new bottling facility is located in a portion of the former Otis Elevator plant on the west side of Bloomington. The distillery says the facility will allow it to not only increase its own spirit production, but also private-label spirit production through its Cardinal Copacking business unit.

“Over the past few years, our customers have demanded more Cardinal Spirits products from all across the country, and, at the same time, our co-packing division for private-label spirits has grown significantly,” a spokesperson for Cardinal said in an email to Inside INdiana Business. “If you’ve been to our distillery along the B-Line in Bloomington, then you know: it’s small, and it’s incredible what we are able to produce there, and we’ll continue to distill our spirits there. But to meet the growing demand for our spirits and co-packing division, we needed additional space and capacity for bottling, barrel storage, and more.”

Cardinal says five additional employees have been hired as a result of the project. The company currently employs about 30 full-time and 20 part-time workers.
