Indiana Donor Network breaks monthly record

INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — Indiana Donor Network saw the highest monthly total in its 33 years of recovered lifesaving organs in July, with 92 of them placed for patients on the national transplant waiting list.

July’s total broke the record of 91 set in November 2019. The network is also on pace to recover nearly 19% more organs for transplant in 2020 than last year, which was a year with 5.2% growth over the previous year. The Donor Network says several process improvements helped to add to the number of organs recovered for transplant patients. Network President and Chief Executive Officer Kellie Hanner says they also quickly found ways to continue donations amid the COVID-19 pandemic, including testing all potential donors through a partnership with the Indiana State Department of Health.

“The ability to recover a record 92 organs for transplant in July – saving dozens of lives – tells us we are on the right track with the work we’re doing every day to save and enhance lives through organ, tissue and eye donation,” said Indiana Donor Network President and CEO Kellie Hanner. “We are proud of our team, and we are grateful to our donor heroes and donor families, who continue to give new hope to those in need of a lifesaving gift.”

Of the 113,000 people currently waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant, 1,300 of them are in Indiana. Click here to learn more.
