INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A body was recovered Sunday afternoon from a stretch of the White River just west of downtown.

Crews with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Indianapolis Fire Department around 4 p.m. Sunday responded to the 1200 block of West Washington Street, to a stretch of White River Trail that runs just north of the Indianapolis Zoo.

IFD crews launched a boat from an area near West New York and Limestone streets.

The identity of the person who died and the circumstances of the person’s death were not immediately known, according to IMPD.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine the identity and the cause and manner of death of the victim.
