Hogsett to visit with health care workers, encourage people to get vaccinated

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett will visit Community Hospital East Tuesday morning to speak with medical staff who have been caring for patients throughout the pandemic.

He will also encourage Indianapolis residents to get vaccinated.

Just over half the U.S population has received both shots, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

CDC data shows 183.9 million people have been fully vaccinated and 213.7 million people across the U.S. have received at least one shot; that is just over 64% of people.

The Indiana State Department of Health said numbers are even lower in Indiana, with 3.2 million fully vaccinated Hoosiers.

President Joe Biden received his COVID-19 vaccine booster shot Monday afternoon at the White House just days after booster doses were approved by federal health officials.

“We know that to beat the pandemic and to save lives, to keep our children safe, our schools open, our economy going, we need to get folks vaccinated. So please, please do the right thing,” Biden said.

The country’s daily rate of new vaccinations is at its lowest point since the CDC started tracking the numbers.
