Marion County businesses hoping for relief as COVID-19 restrictions ease

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Gyms and fitness centers like Peak Fitness on the northeast side of Indianapolis can expand to 50% capacity starting Monday.

The news was announced Friday by Mayor Joe Hogsett and the Marion County health department pointing to a drop in positivity rates.

”I wasn’t too surprised because the mayor’s announcements tend to follow the governor’s so I’m not surprised but we did spend the weekend doing extra cleaning hoping for more customers,” said manager of Peak Fitness Cassie Szink.

Monday’s changes come as the rest of Indiana entered stage five in Governor Holcomb’s Back on Track plan.

As part of Marion County’s restriction updates, museums and entertainment venues are allowed at 50% capacity.

Restaurants, bars and nightclubs are also up to 50% indoor and full capacity outdoor, though they must continue to close ‪at midnight‬.

Churches can have services at 75% and live entertainment like performance venues can operate, but there must be 10 feet between the stage and audience.
