Red Bull Air Race preparations underway

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Crews are already hard at work preparing for this weekend’s Red Bull Air Race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The teams started working on Monday to assemble their planes at the Indianapolis International Airport. The planes will be moved to the Eagle Creek airport when they are completed.

This is the third year IMS has hosted the race, and thousands of fans are expected to check out the action this weekend.

“We all look around, and we see the schedule and we see Indy pop up, and we’re just thrilled to come back. Mostly, honestly, the hospitality and the people and all the excitement the fans bring around here, it’s really amazing for us,” said Jim Reed, technical director.

“It’s always fun to come and catch up with these guys and see them build their planes and get ready to go. It’s amazing how these small planes do some incredible things 65 feet off the ground, 200 miles plus at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It’s a great way to close off our season,” said IMS President Doug Boles.

Saturday is practice and qualifying; Sunday is the big race.
