Dozens of people gathered in downtown Indianapolis for the empowerment event.

Congressman Andre Carson spoke at the event, trying to reach out to young men who may have been experiencing troubles.
“I think various organizations who have different interests and different agendas perhaps coming together for a common good,” said Carson. “Those elected officials who are here, attorneys who are here, those faith leaders who are here to come together to figure out ways we can come together and solve problems in this very hostile environment.”
Carson and other organizers say this event was an opportunity for people so connect with resources within the community.
