Louisville group seeks help from Ten Point Coalition

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Pastors and police officers from Louisville, Kentucky made the 115 mile trip to talk with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, and the Ten Point Coalition. The Kentucky group made the trip after hearing how police and community stakeholders are working together to address crime in the area.

For instance, the Ten Point Coalition has been working with residents in the Butler-Tarkington area for a year. In that year there have been no homicides in the neighborhood, after seeing a spike in murders the year before.

Ten Point has also seen some success in the United Northwest Area. This year there have been no homicide victims between the ages of 14-24.

Ten Point Leader Rev. Charles Harrison attributes the recent success to neighborhood involvement, help from IMPD, and aid from businesses willing to employ those that live in the neighborhood.

After the round table discussion, a pastor shared his thoughts.

“Just seeing the coalition working together, seeing the partners coming together to work with the faith community and working together is incredible,” said Pastor Vincent James, from Elim Baptist Church in Louisville.

Last month, Ten Point visited Louisville after being invited there to talk with residents. The Louisville group will now try to implement some of the strategies learned during their two day visit.
